Asphalt, also known as bitumen is a sticky, black, highly viscous liquid or semi-solid form of petroleum. It may be found in natural deposits or may be a refined product. Bitumen types are divided as follows:
.
1) Penetration grades
In the past, the penetration index was defined based on the assumption that thermal sensitivity in the bitumen used in road construction was zero. Bitumen is a thermoplastic material, meaning that it becomes pliable or moldable above a specific temperature and returns to a solid state upon cooling.
Penetration-grade bitumen is mainly used in road surfacing. Bitumen with lower penetration grade is used in the regions with warm climate while higher penetration grade is used in colder weather.
Penetration rate bitumen is graded based on penetration and softening point tests. 40/50, 60/70 and 85/100 are the most commonly used penetration grades of bitumen used globally and We supply all of these grades from well-known producers internationally. During the last two decades of the 20th century, most road construction projects showed inclination for solid bitumen which results in more effective asphalt.

2) Cutback grades
Cutback Bitumen is produced by adding controlled amounts of petroleum solvent such as Kerosene and Gasoline. The more solvent in Cutback bitumen, leads to the more viscosity in bitumen. Cutback bitumen is used when there is limited access to heating equipment, bitumen decomposition in high temperature, bitumen cooling throughout working, workers safety, fire and time consuming. This type of bitumen is used in road operations for surfacing and pavement.
Medium-Curing (MC), Rapid-Curing (RC) and Slow-Curing (SC) are the 3 important division of cutback bitumen.

3) Emulsion grades
Bitumen emulsion is produced by the suspension of ultra-fine particles of bitumen in water by the aid of emulsifier, a chemical additive, and is widely used in road construction – known as cold asphalt – and maintenance. In these products, after the gradual evaporation of water, the remaining layer of bitumen on the surface penetrates to the lower asphalt layers. The existence of water as the lubricant is accompanied with some advantages among which, compatibility with environment, energy saving, convenient transportation and warehousing, economic efficiency and safety at work could be referred to.
.
Emulsion Bitumen are divided into three categories:
1. Anionic with negatively charged globules
2. Cationic with positively charged globules
3. Non -ionic neutral globules
